Bye-Bye, Bryant

Fashion week is quickly approaching! I just can't wait to go and see several shows this season! I am so sad, however, to hear that this season will be the last ever to be shown at Bryant Park. According to the New York Times, the shows were "interfering with winter ice skating and public use of the main lawn in the late summer." The new location, of course, will be Lincoln Center, typically a venue for ballet, opera, and other performances. Although Lincoln Center will be adding to its list of activities, Bryant Park is getting rid of the one thing it is famous for having. When I want to ice skate I go to Wollman Rink. When I want a "main lawn" I go to the Great Lawn in Central Park. When I want fashion I go to Bryant Park. No more fashion, no more Bryant Park. :(

Nonetheless, I couldn't be more excited to be part of the last season at Bryant Park and can't wait to see how they make Lincoln Center the new home to my favorite weeks of fashion. :)

I am so sorry my bloggies for not writing you sooner! YorkGirl has been very busy, but that is still no excuse for such delay! As the new year arrives, people typically make resolutions of what they hope to change going forward. So, here is my resolution and promise to you: more posts!

Leave a comment on YorkGirl with your resolutions! I'd love to hear them.

Next on the list, my first Halloween spent in NYC!

Before the weekend even started, I went to The Jekyll and Hyde Club, a half a block away from Central Park. From what I've seen, they celebrate Halloween year round.

Also before Halloween, I had to dress up to celebrate at school...a lot of fun! This gave me good enough reason to head over to one of my favorite stores in the city, Ricky's.
For my West Coast followers, Ricky's is kind of like an Aahs, but they have wigs! For $2, they let you try them on. From Marilyn to Betty Boop - it's too much fun! There is never a dull moment spent at Ricky's and I never leave empty-handed! :) At Ricky's, I ended up purchasing a Geisha dress, umbrella, and a short black wig. My makeup was inspired by the poorly, or perfectly, applied Geisha face from Vivienne Westwood's Spring 2010 show. Here's one of the makeup styles she showed.

On Halloween itself, there is no better place to celebrate than in Greenwich Village. Every year they have a parade and close to two million people come to from all over the world to see it. Everyone's dressed in the most outrageous and funny costumes you could ever imagine. If you haven't yet, you have to go at least once.

Here are some pictures from that weekend!

Much love, bloggies!

"Bad Romance"

Tomorrow I'll continue to update you on the past weeks. Today though, I've only got a few moments to share with you. So, here's the newly released Lady Gaga music video for "Bad Romance." With a close eye, you can see bits and pieces from Alexander McQueen's Spring 2010 show. Enjoy....

Birthday Post. I'm Back.

I am so sorry bloggies for not writing sooner, but YorkGirl has been very busy.  I'll take the next few days to catch you up on the past couple weeks. Today's post: my thirteenth birthday!

I invited a group of my newest friends to celebrate with me on the 23rd of October. We were picked up at school by a party bus, taken to Gray’s Papapya for a light snack (or, in other words, the best hot dogs in NYC), and then to a spooky scavenger hunt through Greenwich Village. We went to TAO for a celebratory dinner where we sat right at the base of the big Buddha! To end the day and begin the night, we went to the Plaza hotel for a sleepover together. It was a magical day!

I received so many great gifts too. By far the most precious was a Mon Monogram-ed Louis Vuitton Speedy 30. Hand-painted onto the bag are my initials, “B.S”. I still can’t get over how much I love it!

I just can’t resist also sharing two incredible hats that my brother got me from a hat shop named Samuel’s Hats located near Wall Street. They’re absolutely beautiful.

Here are some pictures from the fantastic day…

For the longest time, whether good or bad. I have tried everything to jazz up my mandatory school uniform. I look to bend the rules, or, at the very most, gently break them. In Los Angeles and now in New York City, I always start at the Gap. But not in the way that you're thinking. You see, I head straight to the boys department! That's right..the boy's section! Instead of just borrowing from boys with the boyfriend jean, I borrow their shirts too.

Following in the footsteps of Coco Chanel, who was well known for incorporating different elements from men's fashion into her legendary designs,  I try to do the same for me! The boyfriend shirt works perfectly. Pair it with your school's necktie, pearls, a tulle skirt, leggings, great sunglasses and VOILA...Mademoiselle York Girl...

As promised... Kylie Minogue! After the Tokyo Lash Bar and dinner at 44&X in Hell's Kitchen, I headed to the Hammerstein Ballroom for Kylie's first of three concerts in the Big Apple. Since this was her first tour in North America, I didn't want to miss it! Next to the music (favorite song- Speakerphone), the best parts were Kylie's costumes which came right off the runway collections of Jean Paul Gaultier and Dolce and Gabanna. I loved the Gaultier dress Kylie wore in the opening (picture below). He also designs for another two of my favorite artists- Lady GaGa and Madonna! And now, drum roll please... Monday, October 12

After a long school week and dance classes at Manhattan Youth Ballet, I finally went out for much needed NYC excitement!

Today might be Columbus day in NYC but, yesterday was the United Hispanic American Parade on 5th Avenue! While rushing across Central Park to make an appointment at the Tokyo Lash Bar in Barneys I could not resist stopping to take in the excitement of this parade!

At the Tokyo Lash Bar with my friend Stella... Roman and Sasha helped us get ready for a night of Kylie Minogue! Lot's of controversy and debating over lipstick color, eyeliner, and whether or not to cover my freckles. I happen to like my freckles... thank you very much.

Tomorrow I'll post pictures from the concert.

I also couldn't resist turning my back on the parade to take a photo of this Chanel window display at Bergdorf Goodman

Is it possible to purchase this bag? Hehe!
